The Japanese Society for the Science of Design (JSSD) and the Japan Society of Kansei Engineering (JSKE) with the joint sponsorship of the Science Council of Japan, and in collaboration with the Korean Society of Design Science (KSDS), Chinese Institute of Design (CID), Design Research Society (DRS) and Design Society (DS), will hold the International Congress of International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) from 26th to 30th August 2013 in Tokyo.

The main theme is “Consilience and Innovation in Design”. The program of the congress include original article presentations, keynote speeches and symposia based on the theme, several workshops, for example about doctoral education in design, and other cooperation programs with the Science Council of Japan and Industry in Japan. Through this congress, we would like to take this opportunity to promote mutual understanding of design researchers in the world, and furthermore, contribute to creating new types of research, practice and education system of design with full respect for the identity of each country.

The international congress of IASDR was held 1st in Yunlin (Taiwan) 2005, 2nd in HongKong (China) 2007, 3rd in Seoul (Korea) 2009, 4th in Delft (The Netherlands) 2011. Now this turn becomes the 5th congress which will be held in Tokyo Japan 2013.

With the support from the Japanese government, the organizing committee has been preparing for welcoming about 1000 participants from not only Asian region but also from more than 55 countries worldwide, during the 5-day-long congress.
